Cryptocurrency and NFTs The gaming space is busier than ever these days, with major games starting to release, token drops piling up, and a seemingly constant stream of other things happening at all times. There’s a lot to take in!

Luckily, Decipher‘s GG is all this. And if you need a quick way to get up to speed on the latest moves in crypto gaming, we’re happy to present This Week in Crypto Games.

Our weekend recap features the biggest stories from the past week, along with a few other tidbits you may have missed. We also feature some of our original stories from the week.

The most important news

Doctor Disrespect: Midnight Society, the studio that is developing the first-person shooter game Fall, announced Monday of abandoning co-founder and popular streamer Dr. Disrespect (aka Guy Beahm) following tweeted allegations about why he was banned from the streaming platform Twitch. Beahm later admitted it that he had conversations with a minor that “veered too close to the inappropriate,” despite claiming that “nothing illegal occurred.”

The studio’s move has led fans to speculate on the future of Midnight Society and Deaddrop. Some immediately suggested that the game was now “dead in the water”, while others believe that the game can survive if it continues to focus on expanding and improving the core gameplay loop. Speculation continues to grow with little word from the Midnight Society camp.

Other Telegram tokens: Telegram-based games are the biggest thing happening in the crypto gaming industry right now, and two other major games made their token plans clearer last week. Pixelverse, a cyberpunk-themed gaming ecosystem that has a rising fighting game on Telegram called PixelTap, announced Friday that it will throw his token ON The open network (TON): the same network as Not money and the next one Hamster fighting token.

Meanwhile, another hot Telegram game has been called Cattizene—a puzzle-matching game featuring cartoon cats—announced over the weekend that its The release of TON tokens is scheduled for July. It’s just around the corner!

New start for Notcoin: Telegram viral game Notcoin anticipated a “new beginning” in a campaign that will see approximately $8 million worth of NOT tokens burned or distributed to the community. On Tuesday, $3 million worth of unclaimed NOT tokens were burned, with another $5 million to be distributed as a “bonus” to the community.

Shortly after, some kind of new beginning was teased in Notcoin’s official Telegram channel. While not everything is clear yet, it appears to be related to the TON NFT Lost Dogs Co collection, after following the breadcrumbs left by the Notcoin team. This might have something to do with Notcoin’s goal is to become “the Netflix of social and viral games.”

MetalCore Token: Studio369, the developer behind the sci-fi mech shooter Metallic corehas launched his Ethereum token this week alongside the third phase of its closed beta, introducing new game modes and economic features to the blockchain-based game.

On Thursday, MetalCore’s Closed Beta 3 (CB3) kicked off with session-based PvP esports competitions, including Domination, Capture the Flag, and High-Value Target modes. Then, on Friday, Studio369 ran the token generation event for its MCG token on the Ethereum mainnet and zkEVM immutablethe layer 2 scaling network that MetalCore was built on.

Webb rebrands worldwide: Webb around the worlda retro-style Ethereum NFT game, announced last week that it will be changing its name to Soulbound, embracing a new sci-fi narrative path. Soulbound is a roguelite game that challenges players to clear enemy-filled dungeons, trying out different tactics and character builds.

At the same time, Soulbound announced that it is building the game to be playable within the popular gaming chat app Discord, after winning the Discord App Pitches 2024 contest.

“We see Discord as the future for gamers, so we needed a brand that would break away from the web and launch us into next-gen platform gaming,” Soulbound founder and CEO Thomas Webb told Decrypt’s GG. “This name gives us the freedom to build a universe around Soulbound without preconceptions. After years of brainstorming, we finally did it.”
