What is MagicBlock?
Onchain game engines make it easy to create games without external dependencies beyond the underlying blockchain.
To me, this is one of the most interesting areas of development in cryptocurrencies today, which is why my curiosity was piqued when I recently discovered the MagicBlock Engine.
MagicBlock is a game engine that has innovated an Ephemeral Rollups architecture, designed to power flexible and high-performance onchain games on Solana.
I think MagicBlock is an interesting taste of what’s to come in the Solana gaming scene, so let’s get you up to speed on all the basics here! 👇

ERC-6551 paved the way for token-linked accounts, i.e. NFTs as smart wallets that can hold other NFTs.
One project that is putting this functionality to interesting musical use is Sound capsulesa simple audio player platform for creating token-linked playlists in Base.
In other words, each of the 10,000 mintable Sound Capsule NFTs is designed to store music NFTs that its owners curate. To add music, you transfer Zora music mints to your Sound Capsule’s smart wallet via the “Manage” page.
Additionally, each Sound Capsule can be sold as a complete playlist. All content inside the Sound Capsule will be sold together with the NFT if transferred to another wallet!
To me, it’s experiments like this that point to a future renaissance in music NFTs, so it’s worth exploring if you’re interested in getting a sense of where things seem to be heading here.
