Popular French magazine Paris Match converts iconic photos into Ethereum NFTs and puts them up for sale at auction
Paris gameConsidered one of the best photojournalism outlets, it plans to auction off some of the most iconic photos from its archives as non-fungible tokens.
What happened: The French weekly magazine reported that the auction, which begins Monday, will have 75 NFTs for sale, all created in Ethereum ETH/USD, the blockchain known for housing some of the biggest collections like CryptoPunks It is Bored Monkey Yacht Club, reported Decrypt.
Some photos selected for Monday’s auction included The rolling stonesJ.ack Nicholson, Orson WellesIt is John Travolta. Reports on river basin events such as Berlin Wall were also included.
The starting bid for photos started at 0.3 Ether, worth $1,148 at the time of writing. Along with the NFTs, owners will also receive physical prints of the photos.
As with other assets in this category, Paris Match NFT owners will have full digital licensing rights to the photos.
Why this matters: The development coincides with a growing desire to convert entities with important historical and artistic significance into NFTs.
Earlier this month, digital asset investment firm Galaxy Digital announced the tokenization of an almost 300-year-old vintage violin once owned by Russian royalty. The tokenized version was used as collateral for a loan.
Global NFT sales volume increased 45% to $19.25 million in the last 24 hours, according to for CryptoSlam. The total number of sales increased by 11% to 193,714.
Ethereum recorded the highest sales at $7.19 million, followed by Polygon MATIC/USD and Bitcoin BTC/USD.
