Meme Coins Brett, Bonk and Pepe are top gainers amid market lull
Meme coins are performing well amid a broader market lull, with Basic chain Brett token at the head of the pack.
While industry leaders Bitcoin and Ethereum have remained largely unresponsive over the past 24 hours, Brett (BRETT) jumped 7%, Pepe (PEPE) jumped 6%, and Bonk (BONK) rose 4%. This puts them all among the top six gainers among the top 100 tokens by market cap, with Brett in first place.
The token on Coinbase Ethereum Layer 2 Network is also leading the pack in gains over the past week, with a whopping 51% increase. To put this into perspective, the second biggest gainer over the same period is Injective (INJ) with only 10%. While Bitcoin and Ethereum fell by 4% and 6.5% respectively in the last 7 days.
During this successful week for Brett, others “Blue chip” meme coins also struggled to perform. Leading coin, Dogecoin (DOGE), fell 13% to $0.1405. Shiba Inu (SHIB) also fell 14.5%, dog hat (WIF) fell 23%, and Floki (FLOKI) fell 27%.
At the time of writing, Brett sits at $0.1673 and has attracted nearly $130 million in trading volume over the past 24 hours.
Brett is a meme piece inspired by Matt Furie’s comic book series Boys’ Club-the same comic strip that spawned Pepe the frog. Brett is Pepe the Frog’s ‘best friend’, according to the meme corner official sitehe is also “a dancer and loves video games”.
Last week, Brett exceeded a Market capitalization of $1 billion. This happened after the token soared 24% in one day. Today, the token has a market cap of $1.7 billion and is the 67th largest crypto token on CoinGecko. And it is now threatening to overthrow its Solana competitor, BONK, which is only $200 million ahead.
Meanwhile, the meme coin dedicated to Brett’s most popular friend, PEPE, has a market cap of $5.6 billion, making it the 23rd largest crypto token and the third largest meme coin.
