McDonald’s launches metaverse and offers perks for Grimace NFT owners

McDonalds introduced a metaverse experience called “My Happy Place” for its customers in Singapore, offering various interactive activities and rewards, mainly for holders of Grimace NFTs. This initiative follows the launch of McNuggets Land by McDonald’s Hong Kong in 2023 in The sandbox.

Developed in partnership with Movement LabsThis virtual world is accessible through the McDonald’s Singapore app, “My Happy Place” uses Bandwagon’s BW.LAND technology.

In this 3D environment, users can play the Build-A-Burger game, design future McDonald’s restaurants and participate in daily contests through the Business Wheel, which offers real-life food deals and prizes.

Elevating the McDonald’s experience

Drina Chee, Senior Director of Marketing and Digital Customer Experience, McDonald’s Singapore, said: “We are excited to launch McDonald’s Singapore’s first digital experience. Our customers can dress their avatars in McDonald’s apparel, design their dream restaurant and earn daily phygital rewards, elevating the way they experience McDonald’s.”

In 2023, McDonald’s Singapore and Bandwagon Labs launched 2,000 Grimace NFTs, distributed free of charge via the McDonald’s app. These “soulbound” tokens, minted on the Ethereum Polygon scaling network, are non-transferable and come with special features in the metaverse.

Grimace NFT holders have access to exclusive in-game items, a secret island, and the ability to display Grimace-themed artwork at the Restaurant of the Future in “My Happy Place.”
