Gaming giant Ubisoft launches free NFT Mint for ‘Champions Tactics’
Ubisoft, the renowned video game publisher behind the Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance franchises, is releasing a free-to-play game NFT mint this week for its first original blockchain-based game, Champion Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles.
It is scheduled to happen in OasisA gaming-centric network, the mint will allow players to collect a total of 75,000 in-game champion figurines. It will be a completely free mint with no gas fees for users, though holders of existing Warlords NFTs will have first dibs and will be able to claim more champions.
The first phase of the mint will begin on Monday, when holders of the Warlords game profile picture (PFP) NFTs — which were minted in Ethereum It is given away for free at the end of last year—you can mint up to five champion NFTs.
Although they are given away for free, Warlords NFTs start at a price of around $210 in ETH through secondary markets. According to data from NFTirthe 9,999-item design has racked up about $7.7 million in trading volume since last December’s minting.
For users who do not own a Warlords NFT, they will be able to Champion NFTs without Mint on Oasys starting Thursday, July 18. This will also be a free currency, though users will need to have a Ubisoft account and an Oasys wallet, as well as be at least 18 years old.
Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles is an original blockchain-based strategy game that Ubisoft first announced last summer. Ubisoft released the first closed beta for the game last week ahead of this NFT minting, as the publisher accelerates the launch ahead of a full release sometime this year.
Ubisoft said it is working with decentralized cloud computing startup Aleph.im — a long time partner harking back to its Ubisoft Quartz NFTs on Tezos — to power the champions’ NFT mint, using the company’s “verifiable random function” feature to ensure fair distribution to users who claim the assets.
