Former President Trump Hints at New NFT Series, Stresses Need for U.S. Leadership in Crypto
Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has suggested the possibility of launching a new NFT collection, following the success of the previous ones.
In an interview with Bloomberg BusinessweekTrump highlighted the strong demand from his supporters for more digital assets. This demand could influence his decision to launch a new collection. He stated:
“We had a year to sell it and it sold out in one day. The whole thing sold out: 45,000 of the cards. And I did that three times.” [and] I’m going to make another one, because people want me to make another one.”
In recent years, Trump has released three NFT collections, generating success and community criticism.
Their first NFT collection, launched in December 2022received much praise, but suffered significant losses in value, similar to its Collection Series 2 released in April 2023 and the ID photo editing in December 2023.
These projects have also faced wider complaints. Early reports suggested that the company that controls the project has reserved several NFTS for the team. It has also been alleged that many card designs plagiarized stock images from popular sites like Amazon.
Meanwhile, Trump mentioned that his involvement with NFTs has changed his views on the crypto industry. He said:
“I did things like NFTs and, you know, that kind of thing. And I noticed that 80% of the money was paid in crypto. It was amazing… What I really noticed was that everything was paid in — I would say almost everything was paid in crypto, in this new currency. And that was an eye-opener for me.”
Reports from last year indicate that Trump has merited around $5 million from their NFT collections.
Maintaining cryptocurrency dominance in the US
Trump explained that his pro-crypto stance aims to position the US as a leader in the sector.
He believes the industry is young and here to stay, making government intervention essential. He stressed the importance of not letting another country take the lead.
Trump said:
“If we don’t do this, China will take it and it will take it — or someone else, but probably China. China is very much involved in this. And it’s not going away. It’s amazing.”
