Meme coins are expected to experience a renaissance in the coming months. Although their detractors consider them flash phenomena, many coin projects have proven their worth over the years and have become the closest thing to “safe money” for the notoriously volatile crypto industry.

The number one contender right now is Faithful Dad Dogecoin. $DOGE is a cryptocurrency that claims to be both the first meme coin and the first dog coin.

Launched in 2013, Dogecoin creators Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer initially created it to satirize the minting frenzy. For the two nocoiners, it was a cynical opening, but they weren’t betting that crypto fans would like it.

People saw it as a symbol of crypto’s fun and irreverence as well as its viral appeal and loyally supported it for over a decade to help it become the ninth largest cryptocurrency with a market capitalization of almost $20 billion. He also enjoys the support of a wide range of celebrities, including Elon Musk, Snoop Dogg, Gene Simmons and Mark Cuban.

But the big question is: Can Dogecoin move from a current price of $0.1317 to $1? The simplest answer is “not anytime soon.”

It also appears that the reign of dog coins is over. Several new species have entered the market with viral appeal. This list will look at the four largest coin species right now to see which projects have what it takes to hit $1 in 2024.

Will Dogecoin reach $1?

DOGE came close. Two years ago, at the height of the Bitcoin bull run, Dogecoin set an all-time high of $0.7316. However, there is reason to believe that this price has been significantly overvalued by the market. Since then, Dogecoin has lost a lot of value, while Bitcoin has reached new all-time highs this year.

It would take another bull run or new use case for Dogecoin in order to push the asset up to a dollar. Regarding the former, many analysts say a rise is imminent now that Bitcoin has completed its fourth quadrennial halving.

The halving was a predetermined software update made on April 20 that cut mining rewards in half. Since this has limited the amount of Bitcoin coming onto the open market, it is possible that there will be another bull run in the coming months. Others have argued that the halving was factored in at that time.

And when it comes to the underlying technology, Dogecoin is quite old. Like Bitcoin, it uses a proof-of-work consensus mechanism, whereby miners with the most computing and power resources mine the most $DOGE. Due to the limitations of Dogecoin’s smart contracts, it can’t really boast an ecosystem either.

This means that among conscientious investors, it is likely to take a back seat to more useful or energy-efficient coins like Shiba Inu (SHIB), Dogecoin20 (DOGE$20) and Dogevers ($WORLDDOG).

What about frogs and sloths?

Pepe’s piece ($PEPE) is the third largest coin in the world. Like Dogecoin, it is based on a meme that everyone and their grandmothers have heard of. However, its $3.4 billion market cap still puts it within single digits of the same league as Dogecoin and Shiba Inu.

At the current price of $0.058114 and with a previous all-time high of $0.00001064, it is absolutely certain that PEPE is not on track to claim a dollar.

However, one project that could be the sloth themed one Slerf coin ($SLERF). Slerf has an interesting history. On launch day, a major incident resulted in the accidental burning of $10 million in $SLERF, intended for some 25,000 confident pre-sale buyers.

Shortly after its launch, Slerf reached a record market capitalization (ATH) of $750 million within hours wSealana ($SEAL), the all-American redneck seal. As 24-hour trading volume soared by nearly $2.5 billion, the token actually reached an ATH price of $1.28 from an introductory price of $1.10 before falling to its actual level. Still, at its current price, Slerf is more likely to reach $1 than Dogecoin.

But it currently faces stiff competition from Slothana, a new lazy meme token that is about to launch. $SLOTH is the same genre as $SLERF with one key difference. He’s a big fan of marijuana and is likely to be a hit among like-minded slow-moving creatures.

Finally, there is Sealana, the $SEAL Meme Coin

If dogs, frogs, and sloths don’t do it for you, Solana’s Sealana ($SEAL), the American red seal, is quickly opening the purse strings in a hilarious new pre-sale.

Sealana is a take on the viral South Park character Gamer Guy, aka Fat Computer Nerd.

Gamer Guy appeared in the jaw-dropping World of Warcraft episode of the hit cartoon and instantly became a viral meme in his own right, recognizable by his milk bottle glasses, screen-locked gaze, its messy room and gravity-defying girth.

Since then, he has symbolized anyone from the legions of disgruntled keyboard warriors writing scathing and acerbic opinions in Internet comment sections, to a kind of Everyman – a symbol of the idler in everyone.

Sealana is Gamer Guy but Web3. Stranded at his computer desk and growing taller by the day, Sealana is so engrossed in degen trades that he has abandoned his previously slim figure for a diet of chips and canned tuna. Her obsession with finding the next big Solana coin keeps her flippers busy and her room looks like a bomb hit her. A true patriot in search of the lost American dream!

Its pre-sale is barely 48 hours old and it has already brought in more than $150,000 in investments, according to the website.

There are rumors that the Sealana team was also behind the popular Slerf ($SLERF) project. Rumors suggest the team wants another successful launch, this time without accidentally burning through $10 million in chips.

For each SOL, investors receive 6,900 $SEAL tokens after the ICO concludes. This puts them in pole position to exploit potentially explosive appreciation during the pre-sale and beyond.

Users can pay using a widget on the website or by sending SOL from a decentralized wallet to this address: DJ15ZYXqUNMYJ3hL7z4ciSaSFAw5cbos3YjGpdvwmF6c.
